Who's who in Turtles!

Message to Parents and Carers.

Here is some information on how you can help support your child at school and at home. As always, there is no pressure to do any extra activities at home, however some ideas of quick, easy and fun things to do are detailed below.

Pictures are uploaded to instagram weekly, sharing the wonderful learning and fun we have in our class! Make sure to look!

Your child has a reading record and book suited to their current reading stage. This will be checked regularly to enable them to move up a level when appropriate. We aim to read with your child at-least once a week. Please bring in your child’s reading book and planner every day so we can change their book if needed or read with them. Often the children forget they need a new book so please encourage them to let us know if it needs changing! If you are ever able to spare some time to listen to our class read please let us know! Every time your child reads with you, please ensure their reading record is signed.

During summer term we have already covered fractions and statistics. This includes finding a half, a quarter and a third of a number or shape. Over the final 7 weeks we will be covering time and will recap the four operations in preparation for year 3 and our NTS assessments. These assessments are very low key and will take place on the week commencing 15th of June. There will be two maths papers- a reasoning paper and an arithmetic paper. There will also be two reading papers. These will cover all topics learnt this year.

The maths curriculum page shows you what we will be covering this year in case your child would like to start looking at concepts at home or with a tutor.

Spellings to learn at home:

We aim to practice a range of spellings from the year 1/2 common exception word list twice a week to support the children within their writing. Our next spelling test is on: Monday 15th of June

PE

Turtles will have PE on a Thursday. Please send your child in weather appropriate PE kit on Thursday as we try to go outside where possible!

Maths

TTRS (Times table rock stars) practice is a fun way that children can practice their times tables at home. Each child has a sticker inside their planner with their personal log in details. Please speak to Miss Mogg if you need a new copy of these details. Hit the button is also a great way to practice concepts like halving, doubling and number bonds.

Home Readers

When you read with your child at home, please write a comment to that effect (or just your initials) in the school planner. Please try and read with your child each day, even if it’s only a couple of pages or for a few minutes, every little helps. We will aim to read with your child at least once a week in school. If your child needs a new book during the week, they can put their book and planner in the 'change my book box' which is located outside of the classroom ready for it to be changed.
