Structures Day
Each year we have a day focused on building structures. In 2023 we drew inspiration from a Goldilocks story where the three bears had a business making honey. In the story they had an important meeting with America via a video call. The children were asked to help the bears by designing and building a chair that all the bears could sit on to make the important call.
The children across school followed a design process, designing, making and evaluating their chairs. They were all very proud of their creations and shared the strongest in an assembly at the end of the day. Here are some of our fantastic chairs.
Our Curriculum Intent
At Oatlands Infant School we believe that design and technology prepares children to take part in the development of tomorrow’s rapidly changing world. Creative thinking inspires children to make positive changes to their quality of life. We aim to nurture children in order for them to become autonomous and creative problem-solvers, both as individuals and as part of a team. It enables them to identify needs and opportunities, then respond by developing ideas and eventually making products and systems. We begin our topics by reflecting on and evaluating existing products . This gives us the confidence and skills to be able to evaluate our own products. Design and Technology helps all children to become informed consumers and potential innovators.
